Behind the Scenes: Arlene

This shoot was great! Downtown Edmonds, perfect summer day, and Arlene. She was a great model with a natural grace in front of the camera that’s rare to come across. Approaching the editing I wanted a very warm, soft look to come across and so I created this look with more of an editorial look in mind. It took about three hours to develop the coloring and ended up being one of my favorite edits to date. I hope you enjoy Arlene as much as we did!

Behind the Scenes: Andy + Julie

As you might have read from our post over at ThePhotoCollab.com, Andy (This Providence) and Julie were such a fun couple to shoot. They were naturals and didn’t mind getting a little goofy which is always a plus. We had such a great time, came out with some great shots, and I can’t wait to shoot them again.

The original approach for these edits was for a slightly blown out, black and white finish. However, after a little more toying around, we ended up editing some of the black and white images into more of a warm vintage feel that I think compliments the black and whites well.

Behind the Scenes: Ballard

Aaahhh Ballard…the Scandinavian capital of Washington State, complete with Freia Melkesjokolade, lutafisk and the Sons of Norway. Ok, ok…that’s not the only thing Ballard is good for. It’s also great for a quick, laidback photoshoot of some friends. The concept? Meet at Cupcake Royale and head out to see what we could find. Again, with the weather not cooperating, we made the best of it and even got lucky finding out one of the guys had a legit gold, 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo Station Wagon. With a few prop and a fast fading light, we made the best of it and came out with some great frames. The group was super chill and natural, which made it easy when creating a scene, as it usually happened organically.

Going after a 1970′s saturated, greenish blue, contrasty tone but airing on the side of warmth, we came out the other side with a simple and effective process that we applied across the board, achieving the perfect look.

Behind the Scenes: Emily

Emily’s shoot was not only a great learning experience but a fun shoot. We had a great locale and we thought the weather was going to cooperate; of course, in true Washington style, it didn’t. However, with a fair amount of Photoshop magic, we ended up with some great images; it just took a little extra effort. Thankfully, Emily didn’t mind getting a little damp and walking through tall, wet grass. The weather is not always going to be ideal and sometimes you have to make it work for you.
